Skydio: Have you ever seen a drone that can fly itself?

The world of tech is a fast paced one and Drone startup company, Skydio is apparently not dulling, haven unleashed its self flying drone, R1 which is capable of locking-on to an object and following while shooting video and avoiding obstacles in the way…all by itself!

The tech on the Skydio self flying drone is so good that it can even track you while navigating itself through a dense forest or urban environments using its 13 onboard cameras. A hurray moment for all video directors undoubtedly.

The process of its self-flying capabilities is apparently simple.

After opening the app that comes with it, you see the drone’s point-of-view via its 4K 30fps camera, from there you tap on yourself or another person (even while in a group) and the R1 will identify characteristics about that human shape, be it general appearance, color or size, and begin following.

More specs of the Skydio self fying drone

>maximum speed of 25 miles per hour

>battery life is 16 minutes on a charge.

>64GB of onboard memory.

>256-core Nvidia TX1 processor

>Price $2499 (about a million naira)

Judging from its price, its obvious Skydio isn’t touting itself as a consumer tech company. Nevertheless, it also revealed that it’s recently closed a $42 million Series B round of funding led by IVP and Playground Global. Other notable investors include Nvidia, Accel, Andreessen Horowitz and Kevin Durant. With this round, the company has raised about $70 million to date.
