Colombo: What a match! Dinesh Karthik you beauty! India winning a cliffhanger out of nowhere should just be credited to great dedication and confidence of the wicket-keeper-batsman who scored 29 runs off only 9 deliveries and hit an unbelievable six off the last delivery of the tournament to help India win the Nidahas Trophy final over Bangladesh at the R Premadasa stadium here on Sunday.
It was a perfect final which was a seesaw battle between the two sides. India finally managed to maintain its unbeaten record against Bangladesh in the Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) with this 4-wciket victory.
It was an inning which not only Dinesh Karthik but the every Indian Cricket fan is going to cherish for a long-long time.
Coming in to bat when India was in a precarious situation at 133/5 after a wicket-maiden 18th over by Mustafizzur Rahman, Dinesh Karthik immediately turned the match around by smashing 22 runs off Rubel Hossain’s 19th over.
In such a small stint at the wicket, Karthik smashed 2 fours and 3 brilliant sixes which saw India home on the last delivery of the tournament.
Opening the inning, Rohit Sharma once again played a mentor’s role perfectly with his 56-run inning which came off 42 balls and was decorated with 4 fours and 3 huge sixes. Shikhar Dhawan, however, failed to perform today and got out after scoring 10 runs off 7 balls with a six.
Suresh Raina could not open hiss account off the three balls he faced before edging it to the wicket-keeper. Lokesh Rahul was looking in great touch before he mistimed a pull into the hands of Rubel Hossain fielding in the deep. He scored 24 runs off only 14 balls with 2 fours and a six.
Maanish Pandey was very disappointing as his inability to score big was at display once again in the tournament. He scored 28 runs off 27 balls while batting during the death overs. He could only manage 3 fours in his inning which brought India in deep trouble.
Vijay Shankar who had not got many chances to bat in the tournament made the things worst by scoring 17 runs off 19 balls and managing only three boundaries. He played four back-to-back dot balls in the 18th over which brought India under immense pressure.
Mustafizur Rahman was amazing in his four overs as he bowled a maiden and picked up a wicket for only 21 runs in his 4 overs, while Rubel Hossain, who had given only 13 runs in his first 3 overs, conceded 35 runs when he finished his 4-overs spell.
Shakib Aal Hasan was also economical in his four giving away only 28 runs for a wicket, while Nazmul Islam (1/32) and Saumya Sarkar (1/33, 3 overs) picked up a wicket each. Sarkar was given the final over to save 12 runs off it which he failed to do eventually.

Indian bowlers had sent both the openers – Tamim Iqbal (15 off 13, 1 four) and Liton Das (11 off 9, 1 six) – back to the pavilion when there were only 27 runs on the board.
Saumya Sarkar also returned cheaply as he could only add one run to the total off 2 deliveries. Mushfiqur Rahim, who had played a brilliant inning against India earlier in the series, failed today and was dismissed at 9 runs off 12 balls.
