Lucknow: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan on Thursday hit out at the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his ‘Surya Namaskar’ and ‘Namaz’ remark. The former UP minister said that he would have been arrested if he had made such a comparison.
Azam Khan said “Had I said what Yogi Adityanath said, I would have been handcuffed by now.”
It may be mentioned that Adityanath had on Wednesday said that the salutation to the sun was a beautiful example of religious harmony. He said, “All asanas (postures) in surya namaskar, pranayama activities are similar to the way Namaz is offered by our Muslim brothers. What a beautiful example of harmony (between two religions).”
He added, “But nobody ever tried to bring them together because few people were interested only in ‘bhoga’ not yoga.”
On a question over Tigers not getting meat due to government crackdown on illegal slaughter houses in Uttar Pradesh, Azam said, “It is not mandated in Islam that Muslims should eat meat. I appeal to the people that they should stop eating meat and turn vegan. If Tigers too want to live, they should start eating grains.”
Taking a serious dig at the Yogi government without naming anyone, Azam said, “Even humans are dying in the current situation, so if animals too are, what is an issue?”
