What we thought
On a quest for a wellbeing weekend, I was after a campsite that was quiet, not too far away, and was located somewhere pretty. Located adjacent to beautiful Colemere Lake, Colemere Caravan Park was a joy to stay at.
Camping in early May it was still a wee bit chilly so I opted for a pitch with an EHU and on arrival, I was given plenty of pitch options. I opted for a secluded field and ran my power over the hedge and through into my tent.
Some pitches do slope, but I found a flat space plenty large enough to accommodate my big tent and actually had the entire field to myself for the duration of my stay.
I could see Colemere lake from where I was camped, and from my tent to the water’s edge was less than a 2-minute walk. The location really is beautiful and Colemere itself has a diameter of about a 2 miles, making it great for an easy circular lakeside run or walk.
Colemere is both a Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, thanks in part to the rare marginal wetland plants found around the mere and whilst the water is beautiful the woodland surrounding the mere is stunning too.
I hadn’t done much research on the area before booking and was amazed at just how much I found to see and do in the local area. The area is full of meres, fabulous walks and nature reserves, not to mention some great little cafes, and I thoroughly recommend The Boathouse Cafe (shown below) in nearby Ellesmere, where they do a mean full veggie breakfast.
Back at the campsite I walked around Colemere at sunset which made for some beautiful photos, and the following day I pulled on my trainers and went for a run around the lake, which again was lovely and the route is largely nice and flat too.

- Not all pitches are flat
Final Thoughts
The campsite is really pretty and in fabulous location, the other guests were all lovely and very friendly and the owner was extremely helpful and affable.
Having a field to myself made my trip extra special and meant I didn’t feel at all self-conscious about doing yoga outside my tent, or even doing a quiet chanting and drumming meditation inside my tent.
Colemere itself was stunning and the campsite provided me with an extremely peaceful weekend that did an amazing job of grounding me, in fact, I’ve previously written about my solo camping and wild swimming adventure here.
I absolutely loved this little campsite and for months toyed with the idea of not publishing this review as I wanted to keep for myself! I will definitely be returning.
