How to travel around Nice with a baby during a Family Holiday

Before traveling to Nice for my birthday, I did a bit of research to see just what I could expect while traveling with a baby. Not every city is easy to get around with a stroller and I knew that we wanted to take it along with us this trip. Carrying a baby for a little bit is one thing, doing an entire family vacation with a baby on your back is another. I was not quite ready for a week in warm weather without some reprieve from the Ergobaby.

Tips for taking a stroller on buses in Nice

From what I had read, strollers are allowed on buses, trams, and trains. Buses with numbers below 100 you don't need to fold the Stroller and above 100 you probably do. We were recommended to take the tourist bus #98 to our hotel. However, once we arrived in Nice with the Baby, bus #98 was not running because of the strike. So, instead we loaded baby, stroller, suitcases and ourselves on bus #23 and began our family holiday in Nice. We used the stroller unfolded and were able to enter in the middle door. We had no trouble at all. However, there was one local mom with her stroller on the bus as well. When she pushed for her stop and was trying to get out the middle door the bus driver didn't open the door for her. At the next stop she had to yell for him in French to make sure that he opened the door for her. So, something to be aware of.

But inspite of the detour, we made it to Nice! And what an amazingly beautiful city it is. We began the day with a walk along the Promenade des Anglais. The Promenade runs from the airport in the West to the Quai des Etats Unis in the east. It is currently around 7 km in length and it makes for a great walk with the stroller. Traveling with a baby is much easier when everyone is happy and viewing that gorgeous blue water made me happy!

Along the Promenade there are plenty of benches to sit at and just admire the view. And if you get hungry or thirsty, there are no shortage of restaurants. We were pretty tired our first day and hungry at a time that many places around us were closed so we ended up ordering pizza from Deliveroo. It was delicious btw. Don't knock on modern day delivery. Fast food doesn't have to mean crappy food. Plus, when you're traveling with a baby on a family holiday then you know sometimes convenience trumps all.

Dinner our first night was enjoyed at Le Koudou. We came across it while strolling along the Promenade. Having dinner early means that not many other people are eating at that time. So we were able to pull our stroller up to the table and enjoy. The prices were pretty typical for Nice but the food and the view were well worth it. This was one of the best dinners that we had during our stay. One thing we love during our time traveling as a family is being able to sit together and leisurely enjoy fantastic food. Since we're doing all of this traveling with a baby, it means that 9 times out of 10 we have to adjust our meal times around nap times. However, it mostly seems to work out! And when it doesn't you still get a nice story about your family vacation. (Remember that time we were traveling with the baby when....)

Mussels were one of the recurring items on the menus in Nice and I'm glad that I got mine here. The French are known for their sauces and this dinner was a good example of why. It was the perfect end to our first day in Nice.
