Chen and Shen have been sworn enemies for years. As Chen walked away, still within earshot of Shen's footsteps fading behind him, he was confused by any gesture from Shen that wasn't offensive.
Engaging Shen with violence has become a habit, second nature, and a kind nod from an enemy is most certainly another trap or trick of some sort.
"We have nothing in common, so it's just another trap," Chen mumbles to himself, his arms flailing to choreograph the words barely audible in the fresh breeze through the tree branches, "...could he possibly be planning this time?" Chen asks himself, certain his old foe was up to another one of his infamous stunts that he'll no doubt brag about the following night in a drunken stupor at the local pub just like the last few times, spreading rumors with exaggerated claims that ultimately hurt Chen's business profits from lost customers.
The last such incident sparked the incredible four-day-long battle between Shen and Chen that leveled a bridge, killed almost a thousand citizens, crumbled a dozen businesses to almost nothing but dust, and ended up with zero arrests since the authorities were fearful of upsetting either zen master; even the judges refused to answer the news channels when confronted for a comment on the injustice for fear of a curse by either or both of the Zensters.
"He didn't even deserve that," Chen thinks to himself without realizing he was vocalizing the words as he thought them.
Excuse me?" a pretty young flower answers Chen's mumbles, "are you talking to me?"
