Obergurgl, known as “the diamond of the Alps” is living up to its snow-sure reputation as the 2017/18 ski season is off to a great start! Although the mountain has only been open for less than a month, already 105 of the 110 ski runs in Obergurgl are open for business. In addition, 11 of the 12 Nordic ski runs are open and 100% of the winter walking trails and toboggan runs are snow-covered and ready for action.

More good news: there is a substantial base of 190cm in Hochgurgl and 75cm in Obergurgl and as of this Morning there is 5cm of fresh powder dusted on the slopes!

The forecast for next week is calling for a warm front that will begin to dismantle the cold air early in the week, bringing mild air on Monday. Later in the week, precipitation clouds will accumulate in the mountains, while significantly dryer and warmer air is Expected in the north. Precipitation is expected to spread across the south side of the Alps and more moderately to the north side of the Alps with lower temperatures expected mid-week.

According to www.snow-forecast.com there is more snow expected in the week ahead. “A heavy fall of snow, heaviest during Mon night. Temperatures will be below freezing (max -2°C on Mon morning, min -12°C on Sun morning). Winds decreasing (strong winds from the S on Mon morning, calm by Tue afternoon).” More snow is expected on Thursday as well, according to www.snow-forecast.com.
