New Restaurant Openings and News – November 2017

The Square in Mayfair re-opens with a new look and chef, Smoking Goat takes its Thai barbecue to Shoreditch, Francesco Mazzei launches Italian Restaurant Fiume and the Bloomberg Arcade opens with a host of new restaurants for The City.

Read our guide to the restaurants opening in London this November.

Butchies

Butchies, the premium fried chicken sandwich brand, has announced the launch of its first permanent restaurant on Rivington Street in Shoreditch at the end of November.

The menu will feature a range of wings, sides, salads, specials, homemade pickles/hot-sauce, shakes, cocktails, wine and a craft beer vending machine, serving over 20 varieties.

The Square

The Square will re-open its doors on Bruton Street on 20 November following a major re-design.  Following the departure of Philip Howard in 2016, Clément Leroy will be in the role of executive chef.

The 80-cover restaurant, which includes a private dining room and bar seating, has been re-designed by London-based agency Virgile + Partners, whose previous work includes design projects for The Greenhouse and Morton’s Club.

La Tagliata

Carlo Palumbo and Lorenzo Boldi, owners of La Tagliata Italian Kitchen in Spitalfields, will open their second restaurant on Grafton Way in Fitzrovia.

The 25-cover wine bar will have around 50 wines from both traditional and lesser known Italian producers alongside small plates of pasta and pizza.

The 60-cover restaurant will serve beef tagliata and other Italian classics.

Smoking Goat

Ben Chapman, Brian Hannon and Head Chef Ali Borer have opened Smoking Goat Redchurch Street, bringing their Thai barbecue restaurant to Shoreditch.

Inspired by Bangkok’s late night canteen spots, Smoking Goat Redchurch Street will reflect that atmosphere – cold beer, a mixture of comfort dishes from the woks, and spicy seafood from the open barbecues.

Fiume

Chef Francesco Mazzei will launch Fiume, a modern Italian restaurant, in the new Battersea Power Station development.

Fiume, which translates as ‘river’, is situated on the banks of the Thames with a large terrace.

The restaurant will pay homage to Italy’s Mezzogiorno area with food “that is wholesome and hearty made with the fresh, vibrant ingredients”.

Bloomberg Arcade

Bloomberg Arcade is a new independent restaurant hub in the City.

Running through the site of Bloomberg’s new European headquarters, the covered pedestrian arcade will include 10 independent restaurants offering a variety of cuisines and dining styles.

Restaurants already open in the arcade include Caravan, Homeslice, Vinoteca (pictured above) and Bleecker Burger, with Koya and Ahi Poké to open this month and more to open in the Spring.

Duddell’s

Set in St Thomas Church in London Bridge, Duddell’s London will showcase authentic Cantonese dishes and hand-crafted dim sum.

Following on from its two Michelin-starred counterpart in Hong Kong, Duddell’s London will offer a more relaxed take on Cantonese cuisine.

Sophie’s Soho

The original Sophie’s restaurant opened in Chelsea in 2002, inspired by the steakhouses of New York.

Sophie’s Soho will open this month with a 125-cover all-day dining restaurant, bar, and covered terrace, as well as a 120-cover steakhouse, with meats aged and butchered in house.

Next door, a 6-seat kiosk with an in-built wood fired smoker will offer dishes to take out.

Bombay Bustle

The team behind Mayfair Indian restaurant Jamavar will launch their new restaurant at 29 Maddox Street.

The restaurant is named after the Dabbawalas, the men who use Mumbai’s famed local railway to deliver home cooked meals across the city.

Motu Indian Kitchen

JKS Restaurants has announced that it will open two new Motu Indian Kitchen sites this autumn in Islington and Swiss Cottage, bringing its British Indian takeaway classics north of the river.

Founded by the Sethi family, the restaurateurs behind Michelin-starred Gymkhana and Trishna, and Hoppers in Soho and St. Christopher’s Place.
