New Restaurant Openings and News – November 2016

A new Restaurant development in St James’s Market with an Italian and Japanese restaurant opening this month; The Clove Club opens in Clerkenwell; Street XO finally opens in London; and Claridge’s has an Apple Christmas tree.

Veneta

Simon Mullins and Ben Tish of Salt Yard Group have opened Veneta in the new St James’s Market development.

The restaurant aims to showcase the very best of Venice’s vibrant culinary scene, with a menu that pays homage to the eclectic mix of cultures and cuisines of the city.

Luca

The trio behind The Clove Club will open their second restaurant, Luca, in Clerkenwell this month.

The restaurant will be open seven days a week and the menu will offer Italian food with a British twist. The main restaurant sits 60 with a semi-open kitchen and floor to ceiling glass walls overlooking an outdoor courtyard.

Anzu

Another new restaurant in St James’s Market, Anzu is the latest restaurant from the team behind Tonkotsu and Tsuru.

It’s a Japanese ‘brasserie’ featuring dishes such as the Teishoku – steamed rice, pickles and miso soup with a choice of main courses including miso cured salmon, wagyu, katsu or tempura.

Motu – a new Indian delivery service

Motu, a name derived from the affectionate Hindi term for “Fat Man”, will be a delivery service serving indulgent home style Indian food.

The new service has been created by the Sethis, the family behind the Michelin-starred Gymkhana and Trishna.

CLAW

CLAW has announced a new restaurant residency at The Sun & 13 Cantons in Soho.

With a mission of serving ‘sociable sustainable seafood’, CLAW’s dishes focusing on Devon crab have been hugely popular at street-food market Kerb, on London’s Southbank.

CLAW will be in residence until late January 2017 for lunch Tuesday to Saturday and for dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

temper

Renowned chef and barbeque expert Neil Rankin has launched temper in Soho.

The aim at temper is to offer cuts of meat from the whole animal, tempered for optimal flavour, and offset with a range of vegetable plates – with sustainability and minimal waste playing a role in the process.

Temple & Sons

On 21st November, The Social Company will open the doors to Temple & Sons, a new casual, City grill restaurant and bar focusing on British produce.

Situated next to Tower 42 and set over two floors, the downstairs deli is inspired by a traditional British grocery store complete with artisan tins of canned goods, which will transform into a cocktail bar at night.

Upstairs, the restaurant will be designed for family-style dining, with grilled fish, meat and poultry served whole or in large cuts, with a selection of sides to share.

Street XO

Celebrated chef David Muñoz has opened the London outpost of his Madrid restaurant, Street XO on Old Burlington Street in Mayfair.

Street XO is David Muñoz’s more accessible younger sibling to Diver XO, Madrid’s only three Michelin starred restaurant.

Claridge’s Christmas Tree 2016

This year, Claridge’s Christmas tree will be designed by Sir Jony Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, and Marc Newson.

Widely recognized as two of the world’s most influential designers, they are also long-time friends of the hotel. The tree will be unveiled in the lobby at Claridge’s on Friday 18th November.

Breddos Tacos

After four years in the London street food scene, Breddos Tacos will open its first permanent taqueria. Launching in partnership with Ennismore, the 40-cover restaurant will open on Goswell Road in Clerkenwell this November.

The menu will focus on regional Mexican and Pocho (Mexican-American) cuisine using the best of British produce.

Pret-a-Portea Masterclass at The Berkeley

The Berkeley in Knightsbridge is launching a series of Prêt-à-Portea masterclasses.

Following the recent publication of The Berkeley’s first recipe book, Prêt-à-Portea, High-Fashion Bakes & Biscuits, celebrating the tea’s 10th anniversary, the masterclasses will offer the chance for master bakers to perfect their own Prêt-à-Portea skills.

SMOKESTAK

SMOKESTAK, which is famous for its prime USDA brisket, pork and beef ribs has opened its first permanent restaurant in Shoreditch.

The ground floor restaurant seats 75, wrapped around the large open kitchen, with space for a further 30 on the outdoor terrace. The cellar-like basement bar can accommodate 15 for a pre-dinner drink and bar snacks.

El Pastor

Sam and Eddie Hart, the brothers behind Barrafina and Quo Vadis, will launch taqueria El Pastór in Borough Market, where the menu will focus on tacos.

The drinks list will focus on mescal, tequila, sangrita, Mexican beers, Micheladas and Margaritas.

Bronte

Bronte is a vibrant venue serving up fresh and modern dishes from breakfast through to dinner. Executive chef Andrew Lassetter has created menu that is focused on fresh, seasonal and modern dishes with strong influences from Asia.

Located on The Strand and Overlooking Trafalgar Square, the restaurant space – designed by Tom Dixon – is bright, clean and inviting. There are semi-private dining options on the restaurant’s mezzanine level and a terrace, which is heated over winter, overlooking Trafalgar Square which is ideal for alfresco drinks.
