He formally earned the spot last Saturday, and said that he felt the honor coming. He also stated that while he felt that he would be inducted to the Hall of Fame one day, it’s been a surreal experience and is a little difficult to believe.
With his safety position in the NFL, he was a game-changer. Dawkins notes that there aren’t many game changing safeties in the league and he hopes to change that perception.
He was a consistent player and when you look at his impact on the game, it’s clear why he will become a member of the Pro Hall of Fame. Dawkins was a Pro Bowl selection nine times from 1999 to 2011, and an All Pro performer from 2001 through 2006.
He played safety with the Philadelphia Eagles for over thirteen years in an astounding 183 games before finishing the last three years of his football career with the Denver Broncos. As a well deserving hall of fame football player, these are his career regular season statistics: 895 tackles, 36 forced fumbles, 37 interceptions, 19 fumble recoveries, and 26 sacks.
2018 Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie stated of Brian Dawkins, “This is tremendous news and I could not be more proud of Brian. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is an honor he truly earned. He epitomized everything we love about the game of football. His intensity, his passion, his love of the game and his leadership were always dialed in at the highest possible level.”
Brian Dawkins knows the formula for success on the field, and is always willing to help out his fellow players. He can generally be found on the sidelines watching the Philadelphia Eagles practice, giving words of encouragement and tips on how to improve their game, and working with individual players after practice.
Other spectacular players voted in with Brian Dawkins include receivers Terrell Owens and Randy Moss, linebackers Brian Urlacher and Ray Lewis. The enshrinement ceremony takes place Saturday, August 4th in Canton, Ohio.
