Pride of Burgundy

Pride of Burgundy

The Pride of Burgundy is one of P&O Ferries’ older and smaller ships standing at just 28138 gross tons. Constructed in Germany in 1991, the Pride of Burgundy was initially a freight only ship called the European Causeway. It once operated between Dover and Zeebrugge however due to the sheer number of people wanting to travel from Dover to Calais, it was converted into a dual purpose ferry and in 1993 the Pride of Burgundy began to work on the Dover to Calais ferry route.

The Pride of Burgundy is one of three sister ships owned by P&O Ferries with the other two being the Pride of Canterbury and Pride of Kent.

As we mentioned above, the Pride of Burgundy is one of P&O Ferries’ smaller vessels. It’s only 179.7m long, with only 8 decks and can carry approximately 1420 passengers, 120 freight vehicles or 530 passenger vehicles. Although she is smaller than some of the other ships in the fleet, it is still capable of reaching speeds of up to 21 knots or 24mph.

Although older than some other ships on the Dover to Calais route, P&O Ferries always strive to ensure you have both a comfortable and enjoyable journey.

Onboard the Pride of Burgundy

Onboard the Pride of Burgundy you can find a whole host of different facilities to keep you comfortable during your trip across the channel. These include a restaurant, bar and cafe, shop, arcade games area, children’s area, lots of seating, club class lounge and a bureau de change with atm.

The onboard restaurant offers a range of meals suitable for a variety of ages and tastes whilst the cafe and bar offer the ideal alternative for those wanting a snack or drink without wanting a full meal.

Families with children will be able to keep them busy on the short journey with the children’s play area and variety of seating where they can sit and watch films or play games.

The P&O Ferries onboard shop gives travellers the opportunity to buy any essential items that are required for your trip that they may have forgotten such as headlight adaptors, maps, GB stickers and travel adaptors. The shop also offers a range of newspapers, magazines, sweets and duty free type items such as tobacco products, alcohol and fragrances.

As with all of the Dover to Calais ferries due to the short distance and travelling times there are no cabins available. Instead the space has been utilised to provide a variety of comfortable seating and of course the club lounge which can be accessed at a cost.

Those with mobility issues will find that the ship is very accessible and staff are always available to help. If you’re planning to get the Dover to Calais ferry, ensure you keep an eye out for the Pride of Burgundy!
