2017 Spring Training – Disney Wide World of Sports

2017 Spring Training in Full Swing at Disney’s Wide World of Sports

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already that time of year again. The boys of summer are back in Florida to compete in MLB’s Grapefruit League for 2017 Spring Training. The annual ritual is to the east coast what the Cactus League is to the west coast, with many of its teams competing in various cities thru-out Arizona.

What was originally thought to be the last season that the Atlanta Braves would be calling Champion Stadium home as their 2017 spring training facility, may now be their next-to-last year. While the Braves organization has reached an agreement with Sarasota County to build a 6,500 seat, $80 million multi-use facility in the city of North Port that the team can use year-round, the completion date of the new park is estimated to be just prior to the 2019 season.

That leaves the door open for the possibility of the Atlanta Braves playing its spring slate in Orlando for the 2018 season as well. It’s been reported that Disney and the Braves are in negotiations to extend their 20-year lease for the stadium out another year, although nothing has been made official to date.

Why Move The Team?

The need for the team’s move arose as a result of the Nationals and Astros both vacating their 2017 spring training posts in central Florida to move closer to the other Grapefruit League teams that play on either coast. That leaves only Atlanta and the Detroit Tigers in close proximity to play each other, which ultimately equates to a lot of long bus rides and hours of traveling, which both organizations would rather spend on the playing field.

Regardless of what eventually happens, the Braves are definitely playing in Lake Buena Vista this season, so get the family out there and enjoy a season packed full of fun and excitement!

What Does it Cost to Watch Spring Training In Orlando?

While the majority of ticket prices range from $15 general admission lawn seats to $59 lower level reserved seats, there are certainly plenty of other opportunities to make your, or your group’s trip to the ball park, a very special one. There are indoor luxury suites, club seating, patio and terrace seating, and even cabanas! The Braves are set to play against the Cardinals, Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies, Mets, Pirates, Blue Jays, Marlins, Orioles, and Astros. Complete schedule and ticket information can be found at:

If you really want to crank it up to the next level, you can secure a 2017 Spring Training package which includes lower level game tickets to 2 games, a meet and greet with select Braves players, participation in batting and fielding practice, VIP tailgate party and much more. Kids can even run the bases after the game. Tickets for this package range from $699-$750, with the event scheduled for March 17, 18, and 19 during stands with the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.
