Gfinity, Call of Duty World League Pro League and Rift Rivals Pacific Highlights!

We’re back with more highlights — we’ve got some Rift Rivals action, a bit of the Call of Duty World League and the end of Gfinity AU’s inaugural Elite Series to showcase!

Be sure to head over and check out the rest of the esports hub! Remember you can email tips to me [email protected] or you can just click to send me an email. If you want, you can tweet suggestions at me as well, my twitter is down the bottom of this article.

League of Legends — Rift Rivals Pacific 2018

Rift Rivals sees three of the best teams from a region team up to take on the best from two other regions. It’s an awesome initiative, designed to get teams a bit more exposure to international play — and an extra opportunity to play on stage in front of a crowd of people. This year Rift Rivals came to Australia, as the OPL took on team SEA and the LJL from Japan.

The OPL — made up of the Chiefs, Dire Wolves and Legacy teams — secured a spot in the Finals, held at the Sydney State Theatre. They were facing off against Team SEA, who had mixed results, but got off to a flying start when Mineski beat the Dire Wolves. And so it came to Legacy vs Ascension — the OPL’s third seeded team vs SEA’s first seeded. LGC struck out to an early lead, but couldn’t find a way to finish the game. And as the clock ticked along, Ascension grew stronger and stronger, until eventually they earned a 4 for 1 trade in a teamfight, and went marching down the mid-lane to finish off an unlikely win against Legacy.

Claire, the only remaining LGC player, had other plans. Watch him single-handedly save Legacy’s game — and maybe Team OPL’s series — below.

Call of Duty – CWL 2018 Season Pro League

The Aussie teams have had a bit of a tough run in Stage 2 of the CWL Pro League, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been some highpoints. In particular, Tainted Minds faced off against OpTic gaming. Down 5-1 in CTF with just two minutes left, the Tainted Minds crew put together a staggering 5 flag streak to secure the win. They went on to win the series against OpTic too — no small thanks to the momentum they gained from this match. This might be one of my favourite comebacks for the year. Epic work TM!

Counter-Strike – Gfinity AU Elite Series Grand Finals

Gfinity Australia’s inaugural Elite Series season has come to a close, with the best teams from the season clashing in the Finals. Melbourne’s Order had a team in all three games in the Grand Finals, facing off against the Chiefs in Counter-Strike first up.

It was a bit tough for the Chiefs, as Order were playing with their full Roster and the Chiefs were playing with subs, but they still put together an admirable show. Still, if Alistair is playing like he was in the clip below, Order were always going to be tough to beat. Alistair’s ace gave Order all the momentum in map one, and they won the best of five 3-0.

Street Fighter V – Gfinity AU Elite Series Grand Finals

Order also managed to beat Avant in the Rocket League, which meant the only thing standing between them and a full sweep of the Gfinity Australia Elite Series was Perth’s Ground Zero — or are they the Perth Ground Zeroes? Zeros? Xaeros? Perth stood between Order and the full sweep — and sadly the Melbournian’s Street Fighter V team were up to the challenge.

There was a bit of poetry to the way it ended, as it came down to ROF to seal the deal for Melbourne. A consistent runner-up in the hotly contested Aussie Street Fighter scene, it was nice to see him have the chance to seal the deal for Order. And as you can see in the clip, he did so with authority.

That win means Gfinity is done for the year, and Melbourne Order have won the club championship! Epic work from the organisation, and – of course – from the clubs themselves.
