Cults and piracy were big in March.
The NPD Group released its report on the best-selling hardware and software for last month, with Far Cry 5 coming in on top.
The best-selling hardware platform for March 2018 was PlayStation 4, but the best-selling console for March was the Nintendo Switch 32GB with Neon Red/Blue Joy-Con bundle.
Of the top 4 best-selling games, three were exclusives, with Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves coming in second place, followed by MLB: The Show on PS4 and Kirby Star Allies on Switch. Sea of Thieves “generated the highest launch month sales” for a Rare since NPD started tracking games in 1995.
Here are the top 10 best selling games by revenue for the month of March, according to the NPD Group:
- Far Cry 5
- Sea Of Thieves
- MLB 18: The Show
- Kirby Star Allies
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Call of Duty: WWII
- Mario Kart 8
- Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
- NBA 2K18
- Monster Hunter: World
Grand Theft Auto 5 refuses to stop making the top 10 sales list, in spite of having released in 2013. Hardware spending was down 32% over the same period last year, due mostly to the fact Nintendo launched Switch last March.
Year to date, however, the Xbox One has driven hardware spending up 13%.
