More PvE content coming to Overwatch with Archives.
Last week Blizzard announced the return of the Overwatch Uprising event, but that event will now be called Overwatch Archives, representing effort to let players delve into the history of Overwatch with PvE story events. An event called Retribution will seemingly be the next entry in the Archives.
Game director Jeff Kaplan and lead engineer Tim Ford announced the news in the latest Overwatch developer update, saying that the idea behind the event is to explore “all of these cool past moments in Overwatch history, and by going into the archives, we can relive those, and Uprising was just one of those events.”
The original Uprising Event will be available to play during Archives, but there will also be, according to Kaplan, “more content and more parts of the event that we’re going to talk about later”. Kaplan ended the update with a tease for what seems to be the next instalment of Overwatch Archives, called Retribution.
Tomorrow, April 4, the Overwatch team will make an appearance at the Overwatch League broadcast to show a “really cool video” that will go into more detail about what’s coming with Archives this year.
There’s more to look forward to with the loot boxes, with all of the old Uprising content being joined by brand new cosmetics. Kaplan teased that we’d see a skin for our “favorite Shimada brother.” We saw a new skin for Genji last year, so it’s quite likely that this year is Hanzo’s turn.
Uprising and, presumably the rest of the Archives event, goes live on Tuesday, April 10 and runs until Monday, April 30.
