Huge visual overhaul incoming.
Wargaming has announced a major new update for World of Tanks will be arriving in March 2018: Update 1.0. Update 1.0 will bring with it a complete visual makeover, powered by an advanced, in-house Graphics Engine.
Over 25 World of Tanks maps are being redesigned for this update with improvements to water, vegetation, skies, terrain, and lighting. Wargaming is promising the increased effects quality and fidelity will have no adverse effects on the game’s overall performance.
“Update 1.0 is a true game changer,” said World of Tanks development director Milos Jerabek. “Though the spirit of the game remains the same, the introduction of the new graphics engine leads to a far greater boost in image fidelity than a simple resolution increase. It’s a staggering difference from the game as you know it, and we can’t wait for players to get hands-on with it.”
Update 1.0 will also inject World of Tanks with bespoke musical themes for each map that vary depending on the location of the environment, and change dynamically depending on what’s happening in combat.
For a glimpse at the upcoming update Wargaming has released World of Tanks enCore 2018, a program that will give players some hands-on time with the new visuals and music.
For the uninitiated, World of Tanks is a free-to-play 15 vs 15 tank combat MMO, focusing on tanks and armoured vehicles from the early to mid 20th Century. Initially launched on PC in Russia back in 2010, the World of Tanks PC community continues to grow year on year, with over 130 million players worldwide.
