Exciting news will come from Japan next month. SEGA has announced that the Yakuza and Binary Domain developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will be holding a live event in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Running from 7-8pm JST. The studio is scheduled to announce multiple projects on August 26 according to Yakuza director Toshihiro Nagoshi (via RPG Site).
The full announcement can be found in the video below (note: it’s in Japanese):
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio most recently finished development on Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, which will arrive in North America in 2018. We got to check out the upcoming title at E3 2017, and came away impressed. Here’s a snippet from our preview:
While the graphical improvements were immediately noticeable, I didn’t know just how big of an upgrade The Song of Life was until I got into my first fight. Combat in the Yakuza series has always been enjoyable (I’ll take any excuse I can to swing a bicycle at pedestrians), but it’s been undeniably stiff in the past. All of that rigid movement is gone, as Yakuza 6 feels incredibly fluid. I was able to pull off every idea I wanted to in combat, be it picking up a traffic cone or slamming a bad guy into the wall of a nearby restaurant.
While Yakuza 6: The Song of Life won’t release until 2018, fans will be able to enjoy Yakuza Kiwami, a remake of the first game in the series, when it releases next month.
Let us know in the comments what projects you would like to see from the studio. A sequel to Binary Domain? More Yakuza? A brand new IP? There are certainly a lot of possibilities!
