Overwatch has earned Activision-Blizzard over $1 billion in less than a year on sale.
Announced as part of the company’s most recent financial results, the figure makes Overwatch Activision-Blizzard’s eighth billion-dollar franchise, sitting alongside the likes of Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.
Last month, Overwatch hit 30 million registered players – perhaps unsurprisingly, the publisher says that it’s become Blizzard’s fastest-growing new franchise.
The game was a major part of the company’s record number of Q1 online players, hitting 41 million (a 58% rise year-on-year). The recent Uprising event also apparently broke the game’s record for time spent playing.
All in all, it’s been a good first year for Overwatch – as you’d expect from our Game of the Year recipient – and there’s seemingly much more to come, with at least three new maps planned for release in Year 2.
