The University of Salzburg, Austria is seeking to fill, at the earliest opportunity, a limited-term (five years)
Full Professor in Data Science
in the Departments of Mathematics / Computer Science.
The endowed professorship is jointly funded by the Austrian state of Salzburg, the City of Salzburg, and by the Federation of Austrian Industries, within the interdisciplinary Innovation Network Data Science in Salzburg.
The future position holder shall conduct research at the highest level, at the interface of statistics and computer science, have extensive experience in administrating interdisciplinary projects, along with substantial experience in mentoring and advising university students.
The University of Salzburg offers the first Master's Program in data science at an Austrian university (http://datascience.sbg.ac.at/), as well as the first Austrian doctoral degree program on this subject. The successful candidate is expected to engage him-/herself in the graduate programs, offer core and elective courses, and serve as an advisor of master and doctoral theses. In addition, the job holder shall actively contribute to broadening the data science network in Salzburg, in particular in connection with the newly established Science & Technology Hub. Internationally visible fundamental research, as well as successful translational research with industrial or interdisciplinary applications are therefore both of importance. Finally, the position holder is expected to appropriately participate in shared governance and administrative duties at the university.
General requirements are as follows:
* An adequate Austrian or equivalent international university degree (doctorate)
* An Austrian or equivalent international qualification to teach the pertinent subject matter at a university (venia docendi, venia legendi, or promotion & tenure)
* Internationally visible research in data science at the highest level, preferably in the fields of data mining and pattern mining
* An established international research network, as well as academic experience in non-German speaking countries
* Experience in fund raising and project management, as well as cooperation projects with international industry partners
* Teaching experience and didactic qualification
* Administrative and social skills
* Willingness to participate in university administrative duties
* Good command of English and German
Hiring will be limited-term for five years at full-time employment, according to Austrian university law §99 Abs. 1 Universitätsgesetz 2002, as well as pertinent details listed in the Angestelltengesetz and the Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmer der Universitäten/Verwendungsgruppe A1.
