The brightness of His Glory
“Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” (Hebrews 1:3-4)
When one has a son or a daughter, there are surely obvious external features and also some similarities and parallels with regard to the personalities of the parents. However, one can certainly not speak of an “express image of the being” in the proper sense! Even a little person has its own character and will and is a unique, complete person with unique ideas and ideologies which will change and become more established with age. When Jesus Christ is said to be the express image of the essence of God, it becomes clear what God is like. In His Omnipotence, God can in principal be everything, but there is a Biblical definition for His being and name – revealed to us in His only Son, Jesus Christ (John 17:5). It becomes clear through the answer Jesus gave to Philip's question in John 14:8-10 “Philip saith unto Him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known Me, Philip? He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself: but the Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works.'' Jesus even adds to this and says, in principal, that if it is so difficult for us to believe and accept it, then we should accept the works, thus the signs and miracles, as proof, in order to truly believe the eternal truth (John 14:11). Who, apart from God, can raise the dead? That which transpired with Lazarus, was meant as a sign for the people so that they would realize with Whom they were dealing (John 11:41-45). What is thus the essence of God? What are HIS characteristics? What is God, the Almighty like?

God is the Creator of all things (Colossians 1:15-17). His essence is inspired and infinite, manifold, absolutely perfect, holy and complete. We will be able to experience His majestic nature and presence in eternity. God is Omnipotent – and as such able to make decisions and willing to, in all reality and dimension. HE is the ultimate authority over all creation, power and strength regardless of locality as HE is Omnipresent (Philippians 2:9-11). He is the absolute Authority and Omniscient, none is above HIM (Deuteronomy 4:35). God is love (1 John 4:7-11)! HE, so to speak, invented and birthed love, put it into practice and gave us an example to imitate. Love is the most precious aspect of God and in the praise-song of love (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) God's own personality is portrayed: “Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Love never faileth...” God is Truth (Ephesians 4:21; John 14:6). A reality outside of God does not exist. God is Light and Life (Ephesians 5:8) and God is indeed that which many people are not, and in comparison they appear as a “a wind that passeth away” (Psalm 79:39) – namely meek and humble (Matthew 11:29). God does not seek Himself, but someone willing to follow His example – that could be you, if you want to...!? [mehr]
