Submission STINKS!

Why is submitting to those in authority over us SO STINKEEING HARD TO DO?

Sometimes, while I am in the middle of a Submission power struggle, I like to fantasize about something that is a little less hard to endure—bamboo shoots being forced under my fingernails.

No question about it—submission is hard to do! But why?

I am not a naturally tough minded woman. My will resembles more of a marshmallow mountain. I cave in easy. (My mom: “DO you care for some cake Mary Kette?” (She calls me that). Me: “Oh no, I really shouldn’t…..ok….But just one piece so you better make it a big one!”)

So, the whole submission thing should come easier to me than other woman who have wills of steel. I guess it is just plain difficult for everyone—the weak as well as the strong.

The cool thing about Jesus is that He showed us how to do life—even the submission part.

In the garden—when He really really really did not want to face pain, rejection, betrayal, and death he struggled with his will. He struggled sooo intensely, yet in the end, he submitted his will to Father’s will. Jesus said, “Not my will Father, but your will be accomplished.”

My heart loves him even more for this struggle!

The thing is that since Jesus lived it, he expects us to follow his perfect example. We must submit like He did. Even though our struggle may never be as intense, He showed us how. He took it to the Father, He asked for Father’s help, He submitted and trusted that Father’s way was the best for him and for everyone. Which it was, and I am so glad He did!

Whenever I am in the middle of a submission battle. When my will is clashing up against whoever is in authority over me (usually my husband), I remember Jesus. I remember his struggle. I remember that he lived it as an example for me to follow. So, I give in to authority. I crucify my will and trust that my husband (or boss or parent or GOD) has my best interests in mind.

After all, bamboo shoots under the nail hurts for a very long time and makes manicures difficult. But, submitting the way Jesus showed us only stings for a moment. In the end, submission brings unity, brings intimacy, builds trust, creates joy (believe it or not), and allows the Father to release abundant blessings on you for following Messiah’s perfect example.

Remember, I am routing for you—you got this. AND also remember to strap on your toolbelt—I’ll see you on the jobsite.
