Religion and Irreligion

One must know what is good and what is bad. What is beneficial and what is not beneficial.

  • You should always be truthful.
  • You should never mislead, nor deceive, nor cheat anyone.
  • Live a simple life, materialistic life styles lead to degradation and bondage to the material world.
  • You should never live on hype, false hopes, and wishes, accept the reality.
“O son of Pṛtha, that understanding by which one knows what ought to be done and what ought not to be done, what is to be feared and what is not to be feared, what is binding and what is liberating, is in the mode of goodness.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 18.30)
  • Treating others badly is wrong. You should always treat others nicely.
  • Charity is important.
  • Being greedy and egoistic is wrong. Let it go.
  • One must always be humble.
  • One must always be open minded and never narrow minded.
“O son of Pṛtha, that understanding which cannot distinguish between religion and irreligion, between action that should be done and action that should not be done, is in the mode of passion.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 18.31)
  • To think that God commands slavery, taking females captive, looting, rape, murder, stoning, and eternal punishment is irreligion.
  • To think that God commands intolerance, inequality, and injustice is irreligion.
  • To think that God will be pleased by hurting people who follow a different path from you is irreligion.
  • To think that God will be pleased by killing animals is irreligion.
  • To think that God commands hatred, intolerance, and violence is irreligion.
  • To think that God uses fear to attract people is irreligion. The real God only uses love to attract everyone.
  • To advocate teachings based on your own beliefs and which are against the scriptures is irreligion.
“That understanding which considers irreligion to be religion and religion to be irreligion, under the spell of illusion and darkness, and strives always in the wrong direction, O Partha, is in the mode of ignorance.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 18.33)
