Saul of Tarsus
I have to get away--- far far away
I'll go to the desert, the Arabian desert
far from the Temple
from the sacrifices
from The Law.
Stephen! his words still go
careening around inside my fevered brain:
Stiff-necked! You stiff-necked people
always resisting the Holy Spirit --
and we killed him
as we had killed the Lord Jesus.
Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?
Sometimes the Light blinds me again
I need to scream out my tears
until the Light vanquishes my dark
until his Love vanquishes my cruelty
and I learn at last that all is loss
save the surpassing knowledge
of The Crucified.
