Fear is one of the biggest impediments to our ability to live by Faith. The power of Fear is reflected in the fact that we cannot walk by faith in any area where fear dominates our life. Fear is not all bad. There are positive reasons for having a degree of fear in our life. But whenever fear prevents us from living out our faith walk, fear is bad. If we are to effectively live for Christ, we must overcome that kind of fear in our life.
The devil’s goal is to keep you bound by fear because fear is debilitating. You can’t move forward when you are bound by fear. You will never be a mover and shaker in this world if you allow fear to dominate you. The movers and shakers in our world and in the Kingdom of God are those who refuse to succumb to the power of fear. They decisively move beyond their comfort zone to discover opportunities to do great exploits.
When I was a teen, I used to hear some people say that fearful people live longer. To me, the irony of that statement is that a life dominated by fear is not living. If you live your life preoccupied with trying to hide from everything you regard as dangerous, that’s not life but bondage. The Bible tells us “God has not given us the spirit of fear” (2 Timothy 1:7). Hence, it’s not normal for us to live our life in fear.
But we live in a world where the message of fear is ministered to us all day long. Case in point; I spend hours on the internet every day because I have a Christian website, and I am a Christian blogger. Oftentimes, when I load my home page, I see titles of articles addressing the signs of cancer or other diseases, or deadly signs from my body I should not ignore, or my risk of Alzheimer’s, or whatever.
And think about the network news stations. They love sensationalism. They would have us to believe the sky is always falling. That’s what gets their ratings up. We must refuse to excessively consume the fearmongering message of this world. If we don’t, we will become infected with the very spirit of fear.
God has called us to be a people that walk by faith. Let us choose to live by faith and not by fear. To do so, we must challenge ourselves to live by faith on a daily basis. We must make living by faith our lifestyle. If we fail to keep working at building and strengthening and deepening our faith, we will allow fear the opportunity to unduly impose itself upon our life.
