For most of my adult life, I have watched as the Internet went from being ascii coded blips sent to friends, to the full-fledged, magical Web that entertains, informs, inspires, consoles, and connects us across every kind of boundary.
The Annual Solstice Wheel ceremony as we’ve practiced it could have never happened. My Connection to you, and yours to me — ??
But that connection that we have enjoyed, even begun to take for granted, is coming to an end. Make no mistake — this is not an overreacting doom and gloom prediction. It is fact.
In 2015, startups, Internet freedom groups, and 3.7 million commenters won strong net Neutrality rules from the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC). The rules prohibit Internet providers from blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization—”fast lanes” for sites that pay, and slow lanes for everyone else.
But the FCC is now being run by a former lawyer for Verizon, and the plan is to dismantle these protections: THIS THURSDAY.
If you don’t want the Internet as we have known it for decades to be stolen away from you, please call your congressional representatives. Please post on social media. Flood them with our protest. It may be our last chance.
