Verses To Reflect On During Hard Times – Caronavirus 2020

The post Verses To Reflect On During Hard Times – Caronavirus 2020 appeared first on Women Devotions.

This is a really crazy time. And it feels like it is getting crazier as the hours pass by.

Most of us are supposed to stay home right now, at least in the United States, due to the Coronavirus.  All this extra time at home means that our minds are probably wandering…but even if you are still required to go to work, you’re probably still thinking about this historical virus. This global pandemic is causing many to panic or feel irritated by the disruption in normal routines.

I’m not going to try to calm your fears by telling you this will pass, because we don’t know the future and we don’t know what God will do. I’m also not going to sit here and tell you this is the start of the end times, because we don’t know. We don’t know if God’s allowing this to radically still our hearts, to remind us that He’s in control, or because we are straying from Him. We just don’t know. I’m not going to give you a reason or false reassurance.

What I can do is point you to God in His Word. I want you to hear from Him. Use this time to just be still and be reminded of verses that we may need to hear right now. Of course there are more verses found in the Bible than I have listed under each category, but I am just listing a few so that our brain can easily reflect (since it’s probably already overwhelmed) and possibly memorize.

Verses If You’re Feeling Anxious

“Therefore I tell you, do not be Anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble, (Matthew 6:25-34).

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad,” (Proverbs 12:25).

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid,” (John 14:27).

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation,” (Isaiah 12:2).

Verses If You’re Feeling Irritated About The Changes

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things,” (Philippians 4:8).

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing,” (James 1:2-4).

Verses To Be Obedient To What Our Government Is Telling Us To Do

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed,” (Romans 13:1-7).

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,” (Titus 3:1).

Verses To Be Compassionate To Others

*By this I mean having compassion for those who are at risk and making caring choices for their benefit even if you feel healthy

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another…” (Colossians 3:12-13a).

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind,” (1 Peter 3:8).

Verses To Remind You Of Your Calling

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil,” (Ephesians 5:15-16).

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God,” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him,” (2 Corinthians 5:9).

Verses When We Need More Strength

*Especially for you weary parents who are not used to homeschooling and working from home and comforting your kids all at the same time

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” (1 Chronicles 16:11).

Verses To Remind Us To Pray

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, ” (1 Timothy 2:1-3).

Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” (Ephesians 6:18).

Pray without ceasing,” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

*My mom is definitely a woman of prayer. I am learning that more and more as I get to know her. She wisely shared how she challenged her Bible Study Group (or Community Group) to all pray at the same time they normally meet since they cannot meet in person. Rather than using this time as another moment of free time, she expressed how we are called to pray for others and that they already had that time carved out so it should continue to be used for God’s glory rather than filling it with something meaningless and wordly, like watching Nextflix.

I love that. And I want to give you the same challenge. It’s not an earth shattering idea, I’m sure some of you have already done this and more. But I know there are plenty of us who worry more than pray, talk to others more than God, and fill our God given time with things that will not only pass and unsatisfy us but may even contribute to more of the struggles we are facing. So please join my mom and me in praying for our world, leaders in their decision making, families of those who have lost someone, for those at risk, for those who are dedicating their time and resources to help, for protection for our medical workers, for countries who are unable to deal with this alarming situation, for businesses and families who may be struggling financially because of the shutdowns, for children and their parents as schools are closed, for beleivers to be good stewards of their extra time and to be examples, for everyone to be reminded of what really matters in life, for Gospel sharing conversations to occur, and that this would glorify God by bringing people to Himself through this pandemic.

I pray these verses encourage you and point you to Christ during this time of unknown. God does know what will happen and we can trust that His plan is good.
