"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the," (Rom 12:2).
"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." (Col 3:2).
"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." (2Cor 3:18).
We are to reflect not this world and the perversion in it. Yes, the world is filled with darkness, everywhere you look is some perversion, and all these things are fighting to dominate our thoughts and possess us. The world system is designed to enable the spread of darkness. Oh, how stressful it can be pursuing money, try to earn a living, to survive, and all that place upon you so much stress. Stress and fatigue that brings down your defenses, making it easier for you to burst into anger at the slightest word from the mouth of a bitter person. Plus the voice in your head telling you that you deserve some relaxation, some kind of carnal and perverse pleasure, something that will soothe your stressful week.
Yes, everything is designed to push you forward into darkness and perversion. Promotings everywhere, trying to convince you that you need certain product, you should desire it, lust for it, and work harder to make enough money to buy all these things. Pushing you deeper into the pursuit of money until you lose yourself at some point. No, we are to fix our eyes on the things above, focus on Jesus and let that gaze cause you to be so transformed that you begin to reflect a light that is alien to the world.
If we allow the things of this world consume us, if we get too sucked in and carried away by the activities of this world, we will lose ourselves and darkness will penetrate us, cause us to join with the rest of the world in reflecting evil and perversion. We are to be so unique that people will begin to ask, "how do you manage to stay happy despite everything said in the news... how do you manage to remain pure and holy despite the corruption everywhere... how are you looking so alive despite the depression in the world?"
"If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you." (Rom 8:11).
The source of our life is not of this world, and it is so powerful that it energizes us, filling every part of our being with that electrifying life. When your eyes is fixed on Jesus you won't be troubled by what troubles the world, you won't be depress when the rest of the world is depressed, and you won't fall into corruption when everybody is falling into corruption. But you will stand as a light, reflecting a reality far beyond this world, and being a testimony of the greatness of the world to come. Let us stand different and pure, that our light might so shine, that many shall be drawn to our Lord, by the radiate of his glory in us.
