Why do we still struggle with old habits?

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 AMP

Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].

In the first miracle recorded in the Bible of what Jesus did, he turned dirty water into wine. And the wine turned out to the best wine in the wedding. This is a good illustration of how our life is like in Christ - the old things have passed away, all things have become new.

Jesus has cleansed our old life with his blood and given us a new life in Him. The dirty water has miraculously transformed its properties and it will never go back to its original state.

Thank God that once we are saved, God has done a powerful supernatural work of transformation in us! We were once lost but now saved. We were blind but now we can see.

We have been spirituality awakened through our reconciliation with God as our Father. We now have access to all that He has in store for us - eternal life, His kingdom, power, glory, authority and so much more.

Although we have been spiritually renewed, our physical bodies are still in its flesh that is corruptible. That is why we may be saved but we need to deal with our old habits and thinking that have lived according to our flesh.

Apostle Paul taught us that as we learn from Jesus, we need to put off our old man with the former conduct and put on the new man through renewing our spiritual mind  (Eph 4:21-24).

Therefore salvation is just the beginning. It gives us direct access to God and the keys to unlock all the amazing things in God's kingdom. As we walk with Him, read His word and learn from Him, that's when we learn how to unlock those kingdom treasure chests.

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit (1 For 2:9). Thank God for sending us the Holy Spirit as our helper so that we can be empowered to live a victorious new life in Christ!

Prayers:
Dear God, thank You that my old man has been crucified with Christ and I am a new creation. I now have access to You directly. Holy Spirit, renew my mind and reveal to me how to use the keys You have given me to activate Your kingdom authority, power and glory. Amen.

Blessings,
Hazel Ashley
