Jesus Clears Our Doubts

John 20:27 TPT
Then, looking into Thomas’ eyes, he said, “Put your finger here in the wounds of my hands. Here—put your hand into my wounded side and see for yourself. Thomas, don’t give in to your doubts any longer, just believe!”

When Jesus first appeared to his disciples on the first evening after his resurrection, Thomas was not there. Yet when the rest of the disciples told him that they saw Jesus with their own eyes, he was unconvinced and full of unbelief. He told them that he would not believe unless he personally see his crucifixion wounds in his hands and sides, touch them and put his fingers through them.

Eight days later, Jesus appeared a second time to his disciples when Thomas was around. The first person he looked at and spoke to was Thomas. Jesus addressed his doubt and unbelief and told him to touch his wounds and put his fingers through them. This time, Thomas immediately recognized and cried out to Jesus as his Lord and God.

How gracious and sweet is the love of our Lord Jesus! Despite Thomas' unbelief, Jesus appeared to him and offered to convince him with the way that Thomas wanted. Jesus didn't have to do that but because of his love for Thomas, he was willing to come down to meet him at his level of faith (or a lack of it).

Although we shouldn't be in doubt and unbelief, yet our unbelief will not lessen Jesus' love for us. We don't have to feel bad when we struggle to believe. Even Thomas had his moments of doubts and unbelief when he was one of the twelve disciples who was with Jesus and had spent time to serve with him in ministry.

But Jesus reminds us here in John 20:29 that blessed are those who have not seen him yet have believed. Today if you have unbelief in your heart, it is okay to tell Jesus and ask him to help you. He will not condemn you but he will willingly reveal himself to you and show his love for you.

Prayer:
Jesus, I have doubts and unbelief in my heart. Help me with my unbelief. Reveal to me and show me who You are and the amazing love that You have for me. Amen.

Blessings,
Hazel Ashley
