Modern science + buddhism is super depressing

I dont see how you can reconcile it. They dont necessarily disagree but it makes the Reality so much worse. Our actions are our own but not on the local scale and yet we will think they are ours and bear the punishment for them. I'm not sure I get the point of buddhism or how it helps you through this. We are here with no will experiencing strife. Why should reality like to do this to itself. It just cant be understood. Even if I squirm my way into some cave out of the acid rain, I've just abandoned all other life suffering in the identical way to me. Its unfathomable. Can someone turn this reality off, please?

I'm talking mainly about kamma and noself. Essentially vetted by Science now.. we dont particularly exist, life itself isnt really anything special.. it's just the universe doing a thing. Everything that you are and will do is conditioned. If you sit down and meditate today there was no agency there - it may or may not be deterministic but regardless you didnt choose the actions 15 billion years ago that led to it. At best you can consider yourself to be all things. I am the universe come alive. But why would it do this to itself?
