Students killed and dissolved in acid by Mexican gang who thought they were rival gang members



Javier Salomon Aceves, 25, Jesus Daniel Diaz, 20, and Marco Garcia Avalos, 20, attended the University of Audiovisual Media

The students were snatched in Tonala, Guadalajara, after their car broke down last month.

They were thoroughly tortured before they were killed.

The state prosecutor's office explained that the students' bodies were dissolved in acid so that no trace of them remained.

It added the youths had been confused with members of another Gang by gunmen from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). CJNG has become the most powerful drug cartel in Mexico.



There were huge protests led by families and friends of the missing students
