Prepare Yourself

Are you an individual who is overly prepared? When life gets busy, and we all know it does, many of us tend to slack a bit and lose the motivation to Prepare for life, and start to fall behind, just going through the motions. I know for a fact that if I’ve had a busy day, stay up way too late, and end up needing to get up early, the next morning is bound to be disastrous, as I haven’t prepared myself properly for facing another day by getting the proper rest necessary, and getting everything ready for that day the night prior. When it comes to living a life of faith, we need to learn to be prepared, be that properly learning about the history of our faith, to attending daily mass and emerging ourselves in it, to spending time in daily prayer in order to build relationship with God. There are many ways that we can better prepare to live in faith, preparing for the long run and looking ahead, but it really does take effort and motivation to stick to this lifestyle. Are you prepared to prepare?
Today's Gospel states: 'And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it, saying, "Would that even today you knew the things that make for peace! But now they are hid from your eyes. For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies will cast up a bank about you and surround you, and hem you in on every side, and dash you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation"' (Luke: 19:41-44).
Today's reading talks about how we need to look ahead and prepare for the coming days, for Jesus to come again and bring everyone to God, for the day we are reunited with Him. We can’t ever hope to know when that will be, as God is the only one who is all-knowing of the future plans. However, we can prepare ourselves through living good lives in faith, constantly putting in the effort day by day to be faithful disciples, and show the world what it means to be children of God. How can you bette prepare yourself as God’s disciple? It could mean setting a reminder on your phone to take that short time in prayer in the middle of the day. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you better prepare to be a disciple in faith.
Today we pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing me that I need to always be working towards knowing You better. Help me to better prepare myself to be Your disciple in faith, and put in the effort each day to grow in my spiritual life.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
