Don't Be Lazy!

Have you ever sat around wasting time? Maybe spending an hour on Facebook, leading into 2 just scrolling though your newsfeed. Perhaps you spend an entire day lounging on the couch doing nothing but watching television and napping. Mind you, sometimes we need a break to relax and if you're in recovery mode, you may only be able to or even allowed to really lounge on the couch. However, if it happens on a regular basis, that this is the way time and energy are spent, it may be time to have a reality check and look at your priorities. God Calls each of us to be disciples in some way or another, using our gifts and talents to be evangelizers within the world. In order to heed to this call, we need to spend the time investing in who we are as individuals, spending time in prayer and community involvement to be better people of God. Where are you being Lazy when you could be taking steps to build yourself up as God's disciple?
Today's Gospel states: 'He also said to the disciples, "There was a rich man who had a Steward, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his goods. And he called him and said to him, `What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.' And the steward said to himself, `What shall I do, since my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do, so that people may receive me into their houses when I am put out of the stewardship.' So, summoning his master's debtors one by one, he said to the first, `How much do you owe my master?' He said, `A hundred measures of oil.' And he said to him, `Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.' Then he said to another, `And how much do you owe?' He said, `A hundred measures of wheat.' He said to him, `Take your bill, and write eighty.' The master commended the dishonest steward for his shrewdness; for the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light' (Luke 16:1-8).
Today's reading talks about how we need to use everything that we have, our time, energy, money, wisely. If we ever really waste our time, it can be seen as an attempt at ignoring God's call for our lives, the call to step out and step up as disciples. think about times in your life lately where you may have made the lazy choice, when you could have gotten up and visited with a friend, maybe took that step to go to daily mass, or bettered your own health through a good walk. God calls us to be active, whether we are always feeling like it or not. Take some time today to pray and ask God to help you be an active disciple in the world, and to constantly put in the effort to become the best version of yourself.
Today we pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing me that I need to get up and be active in order to be a true disciple. Help me when I feel lazy to get up and take the steps to try to better myself.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
