Take A Stand

Have you ever had to take a stand? Be that against a bully, in a situation where you have to defend something or someone you believe in, including an outsider into your group. Touching on what we've talked about before, it's important to have Courage and not let fear be your guide. We also need to remember that God's mission for us is first and foremost to be people of love, whatever the cost. This could mean losing friends in the process, though if they don't follow in what you believe to be right and wrong, maybe a friend change is necessary. Change is never easy, especially when you're comfortable with the life you're living. However, God is calling each of us to step up and have courage, standing up for what is right and good. Are you up for the challenge?
Today's Gospel states:'Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done' (Matthew 16:24-27).
Today's reading talks about how we need to be able to take up our crosses and follow Christ, being prepared to give of ourselves out of love. This is never going to be an easy task, and will take constant effort on our part. However, God will never give us more than we can handle. Think of some of your past challenges you've had to face, rising to the challenge. God helped you through to the other side, even though it probably brought you out of your comfort zone. We are living in a world that is very much a 'you can believe what you want' world, and that needs to be challenged. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you face any trials that come your way, to rise up.
Today we pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for helping me to stand strong in my faith. Guide me when I am faced with those who challenge Your will, and help me have courage to stand strong and trust in You.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
