What are ways we can achieve proper Justice in our world? We learn from scripture that God is not only good, but just. This doesn't mean 'fair' but takes on a greater meaning. When we talk about justice, we infer to helping those who really need help, the poor, the sick, those who are being abused, those without rights. It's not always easy to see the injustice in our world, and we zero in on ourselves, turning away from the needs of society. As people of God, it's important to remember to Love as God loves us, to reach out and help where we can, even if it's just by becoming aware of everything going on, or donating, maybe helping at a soup kitchen.
Today's Psalm states:'Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times! Remember me, O LORD, when thou showest favor to thy people; help me when thou deliverest them; but they mingled with the nations and learned to do as they did. They served their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against his people, and he abhorred his heritage'(Psalms 106:3-4, 35-37, 40).
In today's Psalm, we can reflect and take note of the importance of observing injustice an the penalty that happens when we become too self-involved. One of my favourite Psalm's states: God is love and all who live in love, love in God. Let us meditate on this today, and try to see the injustice in our world. Take some time to ask God to help you give of your self, to Bring Justice and love to others.
Today's prayer comes from 'pray with me' a prayer for justice:
WO LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from an honest heart.
Help us to love our neighbors more than we love ourselves, respecting differences, and embracing our commonalities to find common ground.
Break our hearts for the things that break yours. Help us to be your echoes of mercy and whispers of love.
Use our hands to extend help to those who are in need of it. Guide our hearts to an everlasting peace.
Help us to realize that an aching world is waiting for us, your followers, to be instruments of justice, and stewards of Your Word.
In your name we pray.
