When Routines Change

Tags: mask purse masks

The other day I reached into my Purse to get something and found four (resusable) masks in there.

I found it funny at first but then I stopped to think about why.

When we (our province) had the mask mandates, we needed to wear our masks inside our building - like walking from our apartments to the exit door or in the laundry room or getting mail, etc.  So when I'd leave my apartment, I'd put on a mask, and head out to my car, put the mask in my purse until I got to where I was going, wear it in that place, back in purse for drive home and then out of purse to go back into apartment, and off again and ready to be washed once in my apartment.

So when the mask thingy was lifted, I lost that one step of putting the mask back on to head into my building and up to my apartment.  Which means I haven't been stepping through my door and taking a mask off and putting it aside to wash.  Which means... it turns out my masks have been sitting in my purse forgotten about, whoops!

It's funny how when you have little routines like that, changing just one aspect can mess up the whole thing.  I'm managing to remember to take a mask with me still, even though I don't need it leaving my apartment, but even that has me pausing more often than not... wait... I can't... leave yet cuz...? Oh, right mask!

So yeah, a collection of masks were stuck in my purse because the habit/routine of putting them on before I head into my building got changed.  Go figure!
