Open thread: Who will be this year’s Lions training camp darling?

It’s that time of year where we start overhyping players that probably won’t make any significant impact.

Every year there is a Detroit Lions player that comes out of nowhere that fans fall in love with during Training Camp. I think of guys like Patrick Edwards, Jay Lee, George Winn, Demario Ballard, Zach Zenner... The list goes on. Most of the time, these guys don’t make a huge impact, but sometimes they hit.

If I had to guess, it’ll happen again this year, and there will be a new fan favorite in Allen Park. Some undrafted free agent or player fighting for a roster spot will make a few splash plays or have a great start to Camp and the unrealistic expectations will start to kick in.

Today’s Question of the Day is...

Who will be this year’s training camp darling for the Lions?

My answer: I think skill position players usually catch the eye of fans and the media first because they’re much easier to notice during practice, especially before the pads come on. Also, with the wide receiver position being so tight in terms of depth, I think there’s going to be a lot of guys fighting for those last couple of spots, and there might be a couple of guys that flash early on that many didn’t expect to make the team.

I think someone like Tom Kennedy, Javon McKinley, Sage Surratt, Victor Bolden, among others, could really raise some eyebrows at the start of camp and win some people over.

Your turn.
