Vote for the rookie tight end RIGHT NOW!

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson is one of five players up for Pepsi’s Week 1 Rookie of the Week honors.

Hockenson made his NFL debut a memorable one, pulling in six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown that put the Lions up 24-6 early in the fourth quarter. Just about every one of his catches were memorable, as four of the six went for 20 yards or more.

Hockenson is up against Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (29-of-54 for 308 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT), Ravens wide receiver Marquise Brown (4 catches, 147 yards, 2 TDs), Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew (22-of-25 for 275 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) and Washington receiver Terry McLaurin (5 catches, 125 yards, 1 TD).

While Brown has the better overall statline, Hockenson’s debut is notable in just how rare it is for a rookie tight end to see immediate success. Hockenson’s 131 receiving yards was the most in NFL history from a rookie tight end in their debut.

You could also make a pretty good case for Minshew, who had to come into the Jacksonville game early after starting quarterback Nick Foles suffered an injury. Minshew completed the highest percentage of passes from any rookie quarterback in their debut (minimum 15 pass attempts).

If you want to vote for Hockenson (or be a traitor and vote for someone else), head here to cast your ballot.
