Wednesday open thread: What was your favorite Robert Ayers moment?

Time to reminisce about a wonderful 24 hours in Detroit Lions history.

You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.

Those fine words were immortalized when they were belted out by Cinderella frontman Tom Keifer back in the late 80s.

While the words are sung in a strong, powerful voice, beneath the RAWK is a cautionary tale. Don’t take what you’ve had in this world for granted. It could be taken away in an instant. So share your feelings with the ones you love before they’re out of your life. Take a minute to call a friend you’ve missed or a family member you haven’t spoken to for a while.

This week, we here at Pride of Detroit failed to do this. We were given the gift of Robert Ayers, and we failed to celebrate that fact. And, POOF, he was gone before we knew it.

But even though he’s now headed for greener pastures, let’s take a moment to remember everything we had in those glorious 24 hours.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

What was your favorite Robert Ayers/Detroit Lions moment?

My answer: It has to be Monday morning’s practice, obviously. I remember walking out to the practice field and spotting a number 90.

“Wait, that can’t be Cornelius Washington. He was just released last week,” I thought to myself.

“Ohhhhhhhhh, that must be the new guy!”

And I immediately fell in love. The way he stretched was... identical to the way everyone else was stretching. The way he hit the bag was unlike anything I had ever seen from anyone named Robert Ayers. The way he told the media after practice that he wasn’t going to do any interviews... I see you, Rob. Trying to play hard-to-get, you flirt.

If only I had told him about my feelings before Tuesday, maybe he’d still be here. But if you’re somewhere out there reading this today, Robert, just know I’ll never forget our 24 hours.

Your turn.
