Lions give GM Bob Quinn a contract extension matching Matt Patricia’s in length

Bob Quinn’s Contract now matches Matt Patricia’s in length.

The Detroit Lions announced on Friday that general manager Bob Quinn has been given a contract extension just two years into the job. The Lions didn’t give any specifics on the terms of the Deal, but they did drop an interesting nugget in the official announcement. “The extension matches the term of Head Coach Matt Patricia’s new deal with the team,” the official press release noted. On Wednesday, team president Rod Wood called Patricia’s deal ‘long-term’ but did not provide specifics.

UPDATE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the deal for both Patricia and Quinn are five-year commitments.

The fact that Quinn’s deal now matches Patricia’s in length essentially confirms that it’s a package deal with the two. If one doesn’t deliver, then the other is responsible. The two have had a close relationship since working alongside each other for 12 years within the Patriots’ organization.

Martha Ford offered a statement on the extension:

“I am pleased that we have reached an agreement with Bob on an extension to his contract. I believe the Lions’ football organization is well positioned for success under his leadership together with the addition of our new Head Coach, Matt Patricia.”

On Wednesday, Bob Quinn told the media that he and Patricia would be “tied at the hip” when it comes to player acquisition. Now it appears their contracts, too, are tied at the hip.
