Report: Raiders to hire former Lions QB coach Brian Callahan

It didn’t take long for the Lions’ former QB coach to find a new gig.

It was just a few days ago when reports leaked that Detroit Lions quarterback Coach Brian Callahan would not be coming back to the team in 2018. The man partially responsible for taking Matthew Stafford’s play to the next level left with a very good reputation, and as a result, most believed he wouldn’t be unemployed for long.

That turned out to be true, as MMQB’s Albert Breer is reporting that Callahan is set to join Jon Gruden’s staff in Oakland:

Though Callahan will just be joining the Raiders as a quarterbacks coach, he also reportedly interviewed for the Offensive Coordinator job with the Titans.

Callahan is following the footsteps of his father, Bill, who was the offensive coordinator of the Raiders back when Jon Gruden was coaching for them the first time around from 1998 to 2001. However, Brian still has his work cut out for him to climb the ranks like his father. He’ll report to new offensive coordinator Greg Olson for now.

For Callahan, it’s another opportunity to prove his worth—especially with young quarterbacks. Derek Carr, who seemed poised to become one of the league’s best passers, is looking to rebound from a disappointing 2017 season.
