What to Do When You Don't Know What to Do

There are times in our lives we face difficult decisions, and may feel confused, scared, and overwhelmed. I want to share what has worked for me and hope it will help you.

1.      Don’t force a solution. Just because you are uncomfortable with uncertainty or the feelings you may be having, don’t try to force a solution so you can be done with it and stop yourself from feeling what you are feeling. Listen to your feelings and accept them without judgment. Give yourself time and know that much growth and wisdom can be yours if you allow yourself to sit with the uncertainty and whatever you are feeling.

2.      Get yourself to a PEACEFUL place. Relax, meditate, and center yourself. Finding peace will help you deal with your fear and anxiety. A simple meditation is to Breathe in what you want, and breathe out what you don’t want. For example, breathe in peace, breathe out worries…breathe in relaxation, breathe out tension…breathe in faith, breathe our fears… Also try exercise, go out in nature, recite the 23rdPsalm, read books such as “Jesus Calling,” or do whatever else you have done in the past that helps you find peace.

3.      Take it one day-at-a-time. Stop thinking about tomorrow which you have no control over. Think about today – what are the decisions, however small, you can make today. Think about what kinds of questions you can ask, information you can get, or conversations you can have TODAY! Or perhaps, there is nothing that needs to be done on the matter today or right this minute. Take it one day-at-a-time or maybe even one moment-at-a-time. Let things unfold in the manner they need to instead of projecting stuff into the future or trying to predict the future.   Focus on the here and now, and let go of tomorrow.  Keep your focus on today!

4.      Turn it over to your Higher Power. This is the most important step. You may even chose to forgo the first three and skip to this step. Turn the problem, situation, or person over to God. Release outcomes and the need to know what’s going to happen. Have faith He knows what is best. Have faith you are exactly where you need to be and that it will all work out for your highest good in the end. Let go and let God show you the way.  Faith is believing in the unseen and trusting in the Almighty! Affirm, “I give this to you God.”
