7 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Me

Obviously this is a self-conceited post, like a true millennial.

So yes, if you are looking for a food post, no this is not it. I will write about Mr. Graham soon though so watch out for that. =)

Anyway, I was 22 when I started this blog on Blogspot and now, holy cow, I’m 27! It’s been 5 freaking years of documenting my foodie & cheesy life inspired by no other than Mr. Ted Mosby. Yes, I am a self-confessed romantic. I have a heart of a 70 year old.

Since I didn’t get to do a birthday milestone post last March, I’d like to share a little bit of myself here, if that’s okay with you. If not, errr… please wait for the next blog post? Feel free to skip this one.

To celebrate being 27, let me share with you 7 things you probably didn’t know about me. (Yes, I can’t reveal 27 things, otherwise I’d be an open book. Let’s leave some space for mystery )

  1. My ultimate party trick: I can rap to Nicki Minaj’s “Superbass”.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a Nicki Minaj fan. Sorry! But this Song. This song got stuck in my head for weeks when it came out. It’s such a fun song, I just had to (HAD TO) memorize the rap part. And yes, if the karaoke machine has this song, expect me to punch it in. What a show off!

2. The first song I was able to fully play on the ukulele is Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” all thanks to my ukulele mentor, Orvin.

When I got a hold of a ukulele, I told my friend, Orvin, that all I wanted was to play “Chasing Cars”. I thought it would take weeks to play it, but he was able to make it easy for me that I was able to play it within the same day! I kept jumping for joy that day. I don’t think I was able to finish any real work that day ‘coz I kept practicing. Hehe, sorry boss!

3. I can’t swim.

For a Pisces, I suck. I know, I know. I’m planning to take swimming lessons soon so I can enjoy Apo Island.

4. I’m addicted to marketing books and articles.

If I’m not in the food section of a bookstore, you can spot me by the Marketing bookshelf. I just love marketing so much that my bookshelf and Kindle are brimming with these types of books. This year I landed some exciting marketing side projects. I just relish in the thrill that comes with brainstorming for marketing campaigns.

5. My love for photography started with food photography but it has now progressed on to travel, portraits, and landscapes.

My budding interest in landscape photography was sparked by my mentor, Brian, who doesn’t sleep at night to capture star trails and moves as early as 3AM just to snap the perfect sunrise shot. Whenever I travel, I now try to practice the same discipline. When I was in Batanes, I woke up at 3AM and walked for 45 minutes in the dark just to get to the nearest beach and set up for a sunrise shoot.

6.When I was in third grade, I joined a class talent contest and sang Lea Salonga’s “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal”

I guess I always wanted to become a celebrity. Kidding! I grew up listening to Lea’s (and Donna Cruz’s) albums that whenever I would run into a male vocalist, I would always beg him to sing a duet with me of “Sun and Moon”. Hello Mico! Check out Denise Laurel’s impersonation of Lea Salonga. It reminded me of my talent show performance.

7. I feel my life’s mission has something to do with working with indigenous groups. I don’t exactly know in what way yet, but I feel drawn towards that direction.

My involvement in Culture Shock PH led me to realize this, especially when we had our immersion in the Talaandig community. I just fell in love with this community and I somehow knew that I wanted to keep working with these guys. It would be the perfect excuse keep flying to Bukidnon and hang out with them!

I don’t know where this will lead me, but I have a strong feeling 2016 is about making concrete steps towards this direction.
