Hans im Glück creates a forest in a city (not in Forest City but right in the heart of Singapore’s Orchard Road). The German Burgergrill is named after the fairy tale “Hans in Luck” (or Hans im Glück in German) by the Grimm Brothers. Walk into Hans im Glück Singapore and you walk into a restaurant resembling a German forest with birch logs installed in the beautifully decorated space. Its thick menu, which looks like a fairy tale book, offers burgers for vegetarians, vegans and die-hard meat eaters.

Located in the narrow strip between International Building and the Thai Embassy, Hans im Glück Singapore is long and narrow. However, the interior designer has done a fabulous job in creating a unique and beautiful restaurant with views of lush greenery.

Hans im Glück Singapore in Orchard Road has several sections. There are naturally ventilated dining areas and air-conditioned space with full height glass panels. Each section has a slightly different feel but everyone creates an atmosphere that can easily make you forget that you are right in the middle of busy built up Orchard Road in Singapore.

The menu of the German burger restaurant chain naturally offers a variety of burgers – covering vegan burgers, vegetarian burgers as well as beef burgers and chicken burgers. You can opt for sourdough bun, multigrain bun or have a naked burger (without bun). There is a fair selection of sides to go with your burger. Meal at Hans im Glück Singapore

As you can see from the menu, the prices at hans im glück are pretty reasonable you can have a very affordable complete meal there. For lunch just add $5 to the price of the burger and you get to choose a side, a cold drink and a hot beverage (yes, you get both a cold drink and a hot drink). For dinner, you can top up $5 for a side and a cocktail.

We were at Hans im Glück Singapore for lunch and ordered the Klassik Burger ($14) and the Henne Chicken Breast Burger ($15), making each a meal by adding, Krautknolle (traditional German white cabbage salad), steak fries, a mango-ginger iced tea, fruit salad-mint lemonade, hot cappuccino and coffee.

The food and drinks were very nicely presented and served promptly. The interval between the order and the arrival of the hot food on our table was shorter than the typical waiting time at some fast food chains nowadays.

The Klassik beef burger with multigran bun was served fresh salad, red onions, and the special hans im glück sauce. It was a photogenic and delicious burger. The patty had a good consistency – neither too dry nor too moist – and all the ingredients and sauce combined well.

The Henne chicken burger with avocado cream, orange and mustard sauce & sprouts had a plain looking sourdough bun and the ingredients between the buns looked rather messy. There was, however, nothing about the taste.  The sourdough bread was delectable and the chicken and ingredients between the bun was a delightful combination of lush flavours and textures.

The thick steak fries were very good too and made even more enjoyable with the selection of sauces placed on every table. We liked especially the hans im glück orange sauce.

Drinks at hans im glück

The ice-cold mango-ginger iced tea and fruit salad-mint lemonade looked like elaborate concoctions. They were served in bottles and topped with stems of mint leaves. Both were refreshing and enjoyable. The cappuccino and coffee looked boring by comparison to the cold beverages.

Hans im Glück Singapore is a great new eating place. Located in a convenient prime location in the city, it has an enchanting space and a good selection of interesting burgers and drinks. We found the service friendly and attentive, the prices very affordable and the food and beverages enjoyable. Like Hans, we felt we were in luck; but we were not about to exchange our chicken burger for a goose.
