Want to advertise to parents of children in school? Parents are a great, responsible target market, so that’s understandable. And if you can do something to get their kids to eat healthier at School, you will have scored major points in their eyes! So how can you promote Healthy eating to students?
It can be frustrating to carefully plan nutritious and delicious menus for kids, only to have these healthy meals overlooked in favor of old standbys. Picky eaters often will only eat certain foods prepared exactly the way they like it – a plain, dry hamburger; pasta with marinara sauce; or the obligatory mac-and-cheese. With a diet like that, you may wonder how to encourage kids to eat healthier.
Preparing healthy meals for kids doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, with patience and careful planning, you can easily entice kids to eat healthier. Here are some ways you can suggest to parents to help encourage students to eat healthy at school.
Pair new foods with old favorites. If you want to encourage your students to eat more vegetables, suggest healthy pairings such as carrot and celery sticks with their favorite dip – whether that’s ranch dressing, peanut butter, hummus, salsa, cheese dip or even chocolate syrup. Frequently suggest new foods paired with their old favorites, and you’ll learn the secret of how to get kids to eat healthier. Create a “Weird Pairings” challenge to encourage kids to come up with their own unique healthy snacks. Kick off the challenge with a buffet of healthy snacks and fun dips to go with them. Give every student a branded notebook and pencil to jot ideas during the buffet. At the end of the challenge, reward participants with promotional lunch boxes featuring compartments to help them pack balanced lunches. Imprint the lunch boxes with your school logo and brand message to reinforce the healthy eating challenge.
Plan a field trip to the farmer’s market. Many kids see their parents buy vegetables in cellophane-wrapped packages at the supermarket. Imagine their delight when you take them to the farmer’s market, where they’ll see stalls brimming with fresh vegetables, fruits and dairy items. Encourage your students to introduce themselves to the people who grow the food so they can share their passion for fresh, healthy food. Allow each student to pick one food item of their choice, such as an apple or pear. Before the field trip, give students promotional tote bags they can use while shopping. This will help promote your school and healthy eating message to everyone at the market. You can also give each student a veggie shaped stress reliever as a memento of the occasion.
Host a healthy bake sale. Think your students will never, ever eat a zucchini squash? Offer them a freshly baked batch of zucchini bread topped with a vanilla glaze. Look for recipes that include no sugar or a stevia sugar substitute. Award the winners with a healthy eating fun pack including a lunch bag, water bottle and t-shirt to reinforce the message of eating healthy!
Host a healthy “junk food” day. Get your students excited about eating healthy by showing them how their favorite foods can be made into healthy options. Tacos can be made using ground turkey or grilled chicken and fresh vegetables. Make pizza with cauliflower crust or lasagna using eggplant instead of noodles. At the end of the event, give every student a recipe book with healthy “junk food” recipes and your school logo on the cover.
