The Pros and Cons of Windows 11

It hasn’t been a decade since Microsoft came up with the concept of Windows 10 as an operating system for their devices. This year, Microsoft announced that the Windows 10 OS would be replaced with their new dynamic Windows 11. Windows 11 comes packed with significant updates and features that have a cleaner look to it while having a particular set of annoyances that might remind users of the days of Windows 98 SE. With that out of the way, let’s discuss the Pros and cons of the new Windows 11.

PROs:

  • Aesthetic Glass Look – The Windows 11 desktop design mimics glass, and therefore there’s some transparency on desktop elements ranging from windows to the menu options. This transparent effect resonates with similar products like the background blur, drop shadows, and round corners. These features are GPU-accelerated, thus ensuring that the users have a smooth experience while using Windows 11. These new features also ensure that the new Microsoft Windows 11 will have a more elegant and snappy appearance than its predecessor Windows 10.
  • Bar to Dock – Like the macOS and Linux Desktop, Windows 11 comes equipped with a taskbar that can turn into the dock. The icons can be centred, allowing the user to use them as a touch-enabled device. At the same time, it brings new widgets that will be appearing on a dedicated pane. Windows 11 also comes with better snapping and layout features.
  • Future of Gaming – The DirectStorage feature is expected to boost all gaming PCs, thus making the gaming experience a whole new level. Windows 11 also allows users to run android apps through emulators, which might be the next big thing.

CONs:

  • Accelerated Desktop – Given that there are hardware shortages, finding a good GPU at a reasonable price is near impossible. For those planning to have the new Windows 11, the new OS needs a GPU compatible with DirectX 12 and a WDDM 2.0 driver.
  • Missing Skype – Skype was one of the first apps to promote video conferencing. Today, Skype doesn’t stand firm among its competitors, which might have led Microsoft to replace it with Teams.
  • Forgotten Timeline – Microsoft had previously presented the Timeline feature to visualize ways of staying organized. Although the idea was great, it was rarely used by anyone, so the part is no longer there in Windows 11.
  • No More Cortona – Cortona was Microsoft’s take on A.I.-powered assistants, competing against Alexa and Google’s Assistant. Cortana isn’t an inbuilt feature anymore; instead, it can be downloaded as a separate app.

After weighing the pros and cons, one must realize that Windows 11 will eventually take over Windows 10. We will love the new Desktop concept as we get more time to use it. The dynamic nature of the tech industry has managed to keep enthusiasts on the edge of their seats in the past. With that said, the latest Windows 11 will be a game-changer in the tech world.
