What to Expect from the Next Generation Windows 10?

In a recent conference, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella confirmed developing the next generation of Windows. The next-gen Windows will be launching later this year with a modern design language codenamed as ‘Sun Valley.’ This confirmation came during the Build 2021 developer conference.

CEO Nadella explained how Windows is essential for businesses but has never been used to its full potential. The CEO highlighted the achievements of Windows, and the Microsoft developers are working on building a new experience for Windows users.

Windows is amongst one of the best-operating systems available out there. It brings together the developer and collaboration tools, making it easier for you to work, learn, connect, and play. Nadella added that as soon as the most significant updates to Windows of the past decade are available, it will unlock more significant economic opportunities for developers and creators. Microsoft even self-hosted the preview build of the next generation of Windows, which will be released to testers in June 2021.

So, what else can we expect from the new-gen Windows 10 that will roll out soon?

What is Sun Valley Design Language?

Internally codenamed Sun Valley, the Windows 10 feature will be considered a sweeping revamp of the visual interface. It will also be termed version 21H2, as it focuses on improving the file explorer, start menu, action centre, and other essential OS elements. In addition, this version will be available with the following improvements and features:

  • Design Improvements

Microsoft focuses on improving the legacy apps, settings, and modern features with the latest Sun Valley upgrade. For instance, the File Explorer for Windows might get slight improvements, such as dark mode support for the pop-up menus. However, Microsoft will not replace File Explorer; the goal is to improve the existing Explorer menu with minor improvements.

Microsoft also announced on GitHub that it is working on innovative design ideas for ListView, Grid View, app buttons, elements, buttons, sliders, etc. Moreover, it will also introduce the Segoe UI variable that might include an optical axis to scale font outlines from small to larger display sizes. This feature will be known as Segoe UI Variable.

  • New Animations and Gestures

Microsoft will use a new WinUI for upcoming Windows that contain modern controls and styles. Although it will not replace the Fluent Design, it will improve the overall experience by enabling support for the same UI elements. In addition, the Sun Valley update is entirely built on the Fluent Design, which means it will not be eliminated from Windows.

Microsoft is also planning to enable Windows 7-like rounded corners, transparent background, motions, support for enhanced animations, lighting, and more.

  • Remote Access of Cloud PC

In addition to the new animations and gestures, the new Windows might be equipped with Cloud PC and streaming support for Android Apps. Microsoft is working on building a unique virtualized Windows PC experience called ‘Cloud PC’ that will enable businesses to run their desktop in the cloud while accessing it from any device remotely.

Cloud PC won’t replace any existing services; it is a part of Microsoft’s ‘Windows as a Service’ tagline. Besides, it will be provided as a paid service for enterprise customers to access their system remotely.

Another functionality that you might find in upcoming Windows is the Android subsystem for Windows 10 based on the Windows subsystem for Linux. This will enable native support for Android apps on Windows. However, the Android apps will be distributed with a new developer tool via the Microsoft store.

Summary

Windows 10 latest update, Sun Valley, will be available for the manufacturers in June 2021. But for customers, it will be available in October 2021, which means you’ll have to wait a little longer to get new Windows.
