Stereotyping causes minds to wander and leads to performance impairment

A team of Researchers has demonstrated a relationship between negative Stereotyping, mind-wandering and impaired performance in an individual's performance. Researchers at UC Santa Barbara and the University of British Columbia have established that threat of stereotyping impairs performance because it leads to thoughts unrelated to the task.

According to Jason Chin, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of British Columbia, this is how stereotyping threat impairs performance. He states that a stereotyped group is over-anxious about the bias against them, and as a result underperforms.

This finding will help to identify the circumstances and the individuals susceptible to this threat.
