RE: I CAN’T DO ANYTHING FOR ESSIEN UDIM BECAUSE AKPABIO HAS DONE EVERYTHING – NSE NTUEN

The attention of the Member representing the good people of Essien Udim State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nse Ntuen, has been drawn to an article with the above title, published in an online platform, Trail Reporters, on Thursday, February 1, 2018, where the writer scripted a false and misleading article, crediting same to Hon. Ntuen, simply to distract the law maker from carrying out his constitutional duties of making laws for the smooth running of the State and also providing dividends of democracy to his constituents.

While some people may be excused for ignoring publications such as this for several reasons, it is equally pertinent to try as much as possible to refute some false publication especially, when the accused is trusted with public office, as in the case of Hon. Nse Ntuen.

Ordinarily, we would not have responded to this article, but for the benefit of the good people of Essien Udim and the general public, we are constrain to responding to the plethora of falsehood and utter display of insincerity told by the writer. This if not refuted, could create wrong impression in the minds of the people about the person of Hon. Nse Ntuen.

For those who are familiar with politicking, especially in this part of the world, you will agree with us that blackmail, falsehood, character assassination and mudslinging have found a comfortable place in the political space of Akwa Ibom State. And I think it will be safer to say that politics of blackmail has been ‘legalized’ in our clime and has become a major source of revenue generation to many political jobbers.

The writer of this article while struggling to pen down the falsehood told him by his pay master(s), claimed that ‘Mr. Nse Ntuen, says he cannot do anything for his Essien Udim people because, the Senate Minority Leader and former governor has done everything for them’.

This I must say is a display of ignorance of the person of Hon. Ntuen. This is not only falsehood; it is a fabrication of deceit occasioned by hatred, and this is very unfortunate. Hon. Ntuen did not at any point in time make such declaration either in public nor private. It is simply a figment of the writer’s imagination.

The writer also claimed that Hon. Nse Ntuen, ‘has vowed never to do any constituency briefing and empowerment, even if he goes to the House of Assembly ten times, or hold any political office, because what Akpabio has done even in the senate is enough for them’.

Again, this is laughable. This claim by the writer has clearly exposed his weakness in the area of true investigative journalism. As record book shows that Hon. Ntuen’s empowerment programme for the people of Essien Udim as then Chairman of the council, is yet to be matched and surpassed by any local government administration anywhere in the country.

A peep into the history book shows Ntuen’s strides in the area of infrastructural development, human capacity building, educational empowerment and quality representation.

For instance, as a council Chairman, Hon. Ntuen’s administration embarked on 46 life-touching projects in the 11 wards of the local government area, with at least 2 boreholes in each ward. The administration also took upon itself to renovate many primary school blocks and health centres. He then proceeded to building four houses for widows whose material state was greatly deplorable.

Hon. Ntuen’s direct empowerment programme saw him giving out 46 vehicles and over 600 motorcycles to some indigent Essien Udim indigenes. He floated a scholarship scheme to numerous outstanding and less-privileged students in the locality, where huge sums were channelled to assuage the academic worries of families who could not afford paying their wards’ fees in higher institutions. This brought bountiful joy to these students and their families.

In the area of infrastructure, his administration built and furnished a 46-room complex secretariat to accommodate staff of the council, a project described by many as the best council secretariat built anywhere in Nigeria by a local government administrator.

In the first 3 months of Hon. Ntuen’s foray in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, apart from meeting his constitutional obligations of making laws for the smooth running of Akwa Ibom State, he has benevolently doled out 11 vehicles to his supporters, some of whom are: Hon. Emmanuel Useh, Elder Etiuwem Umana, Rev. Udo Isang, Mr. Idongesit Ime Akpan, Damian Umo Inyang, Edet Isong Uyo, David Ime James, among others.

Again, Hon. Ntuen, cognizant of the importance of education, and it attendant benefits, also beamed his searchlight in this direction by awarding scholarship to some students in tertiary institutions, particularly students of Engineering, Medicine and Surgery, and Law. He has subsequently, in line with constitutional demands, fixed April 2018 for his Constituency Briefing and Empowerment Programme.

With this targeted priorities in Ntuen’s parliamentary and legislative odyssey, one wonders why a right thinking person will accuse this fine law maker of non performance, if not out of sheer hatred, warped-mindedness, gross misunderstanding of the present economic dynamics and ill will.

It is unfortunate that in this part of the world, we play politics with everything, including people’s hard-earned reputation and uprightness, not minding the implications and consequences. This writer should understand that there is a vast borderline between conscientious service delivery and mere verbal words.

Hon. Ntuen is irrevocably committed as ever to the total development of Essien Udim and its people. He believes that perfection belongs to God and God alone. He has vowed never to be distracted by the antics of blackmailers and doomsayers who expect a perfect performance overnight.

We therefore call on all to disregard the article, as the issues raised therein never emanated from Hon. Nse Ntuen, but as usual, it is the handy work of political foes who are bent on pulling others down.

This may well be our last attempt at joining issues with these hatchet writers, not because we do not have what it takes to do so, but because, when a sane man chases an insane man, he leave the spectators in the dilemma of knowing who actually amongst them is mad.

Godwin Akpan, media aide to Rt. Hon. Nse Ntuen
