‘Sacked for not wearing a bra’: Furious pub barmaid, Kate Hannah 22, claims she was fired for lack of support at work.

A furious barmaid has claimed that she was sacked after turning up for a shift without a bra after being ‘s3xually harassed’.

Kate Hannah, 22, posted a furious rant on Facebook, accompanied by a picture of the grey, crew neck t-shirt that she says was deemed unacceptable by her boss.

She said that she wore the t-shirt to Bird and Beer in Beverley, East Yorkshire, after her manager’s brother allegedly made an inappropriate remark to her.

There were even calls for her to take legal action after she shared her side of the story on social media.

Kate Hannah said on Facebook: ‘So I’ve just got home after being sacked from my job, for refusing to wear a bra.

‘Yesterday an inappropriate s3xual remark was made to me, by my managers brother, and in the presence of her. I felt uncomfortable, objectified and shocked that this had happened.

‘Unfortunately she saw fit to deal with the situation by telling me that I’m not allowed into work in future unless I’m wearing a bra. This was said to me in front of three other staff members and customers.

‘Leaving me feeling body shamed and completely shocked that the blame was being put onto me that I had been sexually harassed at work. She called me stupid, silly and over the top when I told her I was upset.’

Most people appeared to agree she had been unfairly treated, with one person even suggesting an ‘En masse bra-less protest’ outside the American-themed venue.

Another added: ‘I would seek legal advice, totally appalling’.
However, others sided with her employers, suggesting that abiding by uniform was a standard part of working.

Facebook user replied: ‘Just looking it up it seems you haven’t a case. Dress codes are commonplace in UK workplaces and their staff handbooks; case law overwhelmingly supports the right of employers to impose dress codes on staff to ensure conventional standards of appearance at work.’

Another Facebook user Abbie Cooper replied: Rachel Greens nips have been on DAY TIME television for over 20 years!! Was that inappropriate too? Should friends have been rated an 18+ because you can see an OUTLINE of a nipple? Maybe a disclaimer at the beginning of the show?? why do people have problems with nipples when literally everyone has them?!

Rosie Collins all the people comparing this to having your d**k visible through sweat pants – d**ks are a sexual organ, breasts are not. I’m sure if she was coming to work with a visible bloody camel toe then she would obviously apologise! see men’s nipples through their tops all the time when they’re wearing t shirts and none of them are called up on it. bras are damaging to the breasts, making it so they cannot support themselves, they are thought to add to the risk of breast cancer, and they’re fuking uncomfortable. breasts are a normal part of the body used to feed children and should be treated as such, shame on this company for their disgusting conduct and for humiliating this girl. hope you’re ok! 

Ashey Achmed Wear a bra at work , not to much to ask . If my boss tells me to dress in a certain way I just do it . We are too afraid to in this day and age to offend people . It’s a big problem.

Ash Lauren I absolutely hate wearing bras , they hurt me dig into me and I have tried all different bras. But I do still wear them but that’s my choice. Everyone should have a right to wear what they want.

A spokesman for Bird and Beer said: ‘We can confirm that no employees have been dismissed from the company regarding these allegations.

‘We have a duty of care to protect all of our employees from any discrimination or sexual harassment within the work place and we take any comments towards our employees very seriously and act upon them immediately in a professional manner.’
